Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning announced on Tuesday evening that defenceman Travis Hamonic has returned to the organization following a temporary leave of absence.

"Hamonic has returned to Vancouver. He will join the Abbotsford Canucks in the coming days. More details to come when available," the Canucks statement said.

The St. Malo, Manitoba native was placed on waivers at the start of the 2021-22 season with the intent to send him to the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League. Just over a week ago, Canucks general manager Jim Benning announced that both the team and Hamonic agreed to a temporary leave of absence to work through his personal matters.

In 38 games for the Canucks during the 2020-21 season, the 31-year-old had ten points (three goals, seven assists), 39 penalty minutes, and was a minus-three.

It will take Hamonic a bit of time to get back up to speed, but a return to Vancouver's lineup appears to be near. He could get game action in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford as early as Friday when they host the Ontario Reign.
