Former sixth overall pick Brett Connolly was placed on waivers yesterday by the Chicago Blackhawks, and he cleared just after 2pm ET on Wednesday. Connolly and his $3.5 million salary were assigned to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

Connolly, 29, hasn't played in the AHL since the 2013-14 season when he played 66 games for the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa Bay's affiliate.

Since his last stint in the AHL, Connolly has played in 443 regular season games for Tampa Bay, Boston, Washington, Florida, and Chicago, tallying 177 points (95 G, 82 A), 192 penalty minutes, and is a +29. He won a Stanley Cup with Washington in 2018.

Eight other players were also assigned to Rockford, including 2020 first round pick Lukas Reichel, Andrei Altybarmakian, Jakub Pour, Josiah Slavin, Michal Teply, Louis Crevier, Michael Krutil and Isaak Phillips.
