The Los Angeles Kings have suffered a huge loss after rookie center Quinton Byfield was sidelined with an injury in preseason action against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night.

Byfield had to be helped off the ice after taking an awkward hit into the boards from Arizona's Christian Fischer early in the third period. Early word is that Byfield is week-to-week with a lower body injury.

It was anticipated that Byfield would take a big step forward with the Kings this season after playing just 6 games with the team in 2020-21, putting up one lone assist.

The 19-year-old played 32 games with the Ontario Reign, the Kings' AHL affiliate, last season. Byfield managed to rack up 20 points over that span.

Tough to see a kid with such a high skill-cap and a bright future go down with an injury during the preseason when his chances of making the cut looked so promising.
