The lack of progress on a new contract for Ottawa Senators forward Brady Tkachuk has become somewhat concerning, especially after fellow RFA hold-outs Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson agreed to terms on multi-year contracts with the Vancouver Canucks this weekend.

Tkachuk has now missed the entirety of training camp and is in jeopardy of missing the entire preseason and, potentially, the start of the regular season as well.

On Tuesday, St. Louis Blues rinkside reporter Andy Strickland had reported that not only has there been a lack of communication between the Sens and the Tkachuk camp, but that ownership and management were digging their heels in on a longer-term deal and don't appear to be interested in a bridge deal.

Players in Tkachuk's position are often better served to take a bridge deal to hit their peak before cashing in on a long-term, big money contract to maximize their career earnings.

It appears to be a game of chicken at this point between the two sides. The real question is - is either side prepared to have Tkachuk hold out, miss games and potentially cost the Senators valuable points in a tough division early on in the season?

Notable recent hold-outs include Mathew Barzal and Mitch Marner, both of whom signed their deals prior to the start of their respective teams' season openers.
