For the Edmonton Oilers, the late Joey Moss was much more than just a locker room attendant. He was a guy, as former Oiler Kelly Buchburger had put it, he was family to many in the Edmonton Oilers organization.

Moss, who was born with Down syndrome, became a role model and a beacon of hope for many during his time with the Oilers and the CFL's Edmonton Football Team. Sadly, Moss passed away almost one year ago at the age of 57, after spending nearly 40 years with the Oilers. He was originally recommended for the position by Wayne Gretzky in 1982-83.

On Tuesday, the Oilers announced that they will paying homage to Moss in a very special way, installing a bronze statue of Joey in the Oilers' dressing room - complete with an outstretched hand for the Oilers players and staff to high-five before every game.

This is an extremely cool story and a fantastic way for the Oilers to share their rich history with both current and future players and staff.

Moss meant a lot of things to a lot of people - not just in the Oilers' organization, but to players and personnel outside of it as well. It's nice to see his memory honored in such a unique way befitting a man of his character.

Well done, Oilers organization. Truly, well done.
