Bode Wilde, who was drafted by the New York Islanders in the second round (41st overall) in 2018, will be spending the upcoming season in Europe. Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello recently made it clear that unvaccinated players and staff would not be welcome into the Isles' organization, and he made good on that promise by loaning Wilde to Vasterviks IK of Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan.

While the team did not name Wilde when admitting that there was one player within the organization that would not get vaccinated, Wilde essentially outed himself with a post on Instagram stating "hoping my human rights are enough to let me play."

While the league has stated that unvaccinated individuals are allowed to play in the NHL provided they follow tougher restriction, some teams have taken it upon themselves to have a 100 percent vaccination rule. The New York Islanders are among those, as well as the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Bode is a right-shot defenceman who has spent the past two seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.
