There is a great deal of concern with how the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames have chosen to address attendance limits at home games amid Healthcare crisis in Alberta.

This past week, the organizations announced that they would proceed with 100% attendance at home games, provided patrons were masked while not consuming food and beverages in the arena.

Despite the clear instructions, TSN's Rick Westhead has reported that some fans chose to abide by the arena guidelines at last night's Oilers/Flames game in Calgary and some ignored the guidelines completely, remaining unmasked throughout the contest.

Further to the concern that this undoubtedly creates, Westhead has also pointed out that the proof-of-vaccination mobile app (PortPass), that is endorsed by the Calgary Flames organization has proven to be faulty as well, which could lead to unvaccinated patrons entering the facility.

It's unclear at this point how the province of Alberta will address these issues, if they do at all - but at this point, in the name of public safety, it would appear as though the Oilers and Flames organizations have a moral responsibility to scale back attendance rates until these issues can be resolved or until the provincial healthcare crisis is under control.
