The San Jose Sharks released a statement on Wednesday night saying that Evander Kane will not be participating in their training camp, which is set to begin Thursday.

Kane, 30, was accused by his estranged wife Anna earlier this offseason of gambling on NHL games, including his own. Though he was cleared of those accusations by the NHL Wednesday, Anna once again put out some very serious and troubling allegations against the Sharks forward. The allegations included sexual, physical and mental abuse, and can be found in more context in the link at the end of the article.

«The San Jose Sharks are aware of additional allegations that are unrelated to the National Hockey League's initial investigation of Evander Kane,» the team said in a statement. «We take the allegations very seriously and have been in communication with the NHL. The League will continue to have our full cooperation regarding the ongoing investigation.

«The Sharks and Evander have agreed that he will not be participating in Sharks 2021 Training Camp until further notice. The Sharks will have no further comment on this matter at this time."

It seems likely that Kane won't be there for the start of the regular season either, unless he's cleared of the new accusations before then.

Though the gambling allegations appear to have no basis, at least in the league's eyes, Kane has been a major distraction to the Sharks this summer. On the ice, he is a great player, but there are so many off ice issues that you have to question if he might have played his last game as an NHLer. Despite being a very good player for the Sharks, many in the dressing room will not be upset he is not attending training camp, as it has been reported that several of his teammates do not want him back on the team at any point.
