Bobby Ryan gets a PTO for training camp

The Detroit Red Wings announced on Tuesday that they've signed veteran forward Bobby Ryan to a professional tryout contract. Ryan will join the Red Wings for training camp which begins in a matter of days.

Ryan, 34, spent the 2020-21 season with the Red Wings where he had 14 points (7 G, 7 A), 27 penalty minutes and was a -14 in 33 games.

Prior to last season, the Cherry Hill, New Jersey native spent seven seasons with the Ottawa Senators. While with the Sens during the 2019-20 season he was placed in the NHL's player assistance program to deal with a personal issue relating to his alcohol use. Ryan went on to make a comeback with Senators later that season, scoring a hat trick in his first game back in Ottawa For his perseverance, he was named the winner of the Bill Masterton Trophy.

The 34-year-old could likely see game action as early as next Wednesday when the Red Wing take on the Chicago Blackhawks in their first pre-season game.
