The Seattle Kraken have added to their lineup ahead of their first NHL season in 2021-22, signing free agent Ryan Donato to a one-year, $750,000 deal.

Donato, 25, is a player who proved during his time at Harvard University that he has a ton of skill, though he has been unable to deliver it consistently at the NHL level. In 50 games with the San Jose Sharks last season he managed six goals and 20 points. His best season came one year prior, where in 62 games with the Minnesota Wild he recorded 14 goals and 23 points.

When he first started his NHL career with the Boston Bruins in 2017-18, Donato looked like he had star potential as in 12 games that season he put up five goals and nine points. Unfortunately, he has not maintained that stellar production since, which is why he was forced to settle on a one-year deal at league minimum. He still has plenty of potential however, and joining a team like the Kraken could be a great fit for him in order to get his NHL career back on track.
