While officially retired from playing professional hockey, Mikko Koivu is reportedly heading back to the Minnesota Wild, the team where he spent the vast majority of his NHL career. According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, Koivu will be in Minnesota in a few days.

"Hearing former [Wild] captain Mikko Koivu will be around the Wild during next week's prospect camp/showcase and training camp," said Russo.

"No official role yet, but signs are he'll eventually have an official position with the organization."

Koivu was drafted by the Wild in the sixth overall position in 2001 and spent his entire career there other than seven games he played with the Columbus Blue Jackets before deciding to hang up his skates. The 38-year-old has a wealth of knowledge and skills he can certainly share with the team's prospects and regular roster.

Koivu played 1035 regular season game in the NHL, recording 206 goals and 711 points.
