It has been noted in the past that Brisson and Bergevin are childhood friends, becoming close as teenagers growing up in Montreal. Brisson is the agent for Tyler Toffoli and was the one to convince Toffoli that signing with the Habs would be a good idea, as per the Montreal Gazette. Brison was the agent for both Alex Galchenyuk and Max Domi when Bergevin decided to trade Galchenyuk to the Arizona Coyotes for Domi. Both players were spinning their wheels at the time. It was also noted by the Gazette that both Max Pacioretty and Max Domi fired Brisson as their agent when it became clear they would be traded out of Montreal as "Both players probably had concerns Brisson might be trying to help Bergevin as much (and maybe more) than them." On top of all that, Bergevin's last contract as a player in the NHL was negotiated by Brisson, who was serving as his agent at the time.
So what does this all mean for Eichel? Maybe nothing, but maybe more than people realize. Montreal has been looking for a star centre for several years, a hole that Eichel could certainly fill. A relationship between the GM and Eichel's agent certainly shouldn't hurt that cause. The big question is what Montreal would have to give up in return. Bergevin had previously said his "untouchable" players are Carey Price, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Alexander Romanov. For Buffalo, who looks to be rebuilding yet again, Suzuki, Caufield and Romanov would all be sought after pieces in its bid to turn things around in the long-term. Former 3rd overall draft pick Jesperi Kotkaniemi could also be another factor in those talks, should they take place.
It's interesting to note that Brisson also represented Luc Robitaille during his NHL playing days. Robitaille is now the President of Business Operations for the LA Kings, a team that has been rumoured to have great interest in acquiring Eichel. At the end of the day, Eichel's agent move is certainly a big one for his future as he now has one of the biggest guns in the industry his corner.
