A recent study was conducted by The Action Network to find the teams that are the most hated across the five major sport leagues. Among the leagues that were involved in the study were the NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, and MLS. The study analyzed negative sentiment data across the leagues in order to discover the top 50 most negatively discussed teams online. Surprisingly, the NHL featured more than any other of the major leagues.
The NHL had 17 teams make the top 50 list, with the top 10 all averaging more than 6.4% of negative sentiment. Dallas was first with nearly a 10% (9.86%) negative sentiment online. Rounding out the second through tenth position was the Arizona Coyotes (9.33%), Toronto Maple Leafs (8.85%), Vancouver Canucks (8.57%), Buffalo Sabres (8.29%), Edmonton Oilers (7.42%), Columbus Blue Jackets (7.28%), New York Islanders (7.22%), Calgary Flames (6.82%), and St. Louis Blues (6.46%).
The Stars were actually second overall on the list across all the leagues, with just the Las Vegas Raiders coming ahead of them with a whopping 14.2% of negative sentiment. That score was twice as much as the team that came in 50th place, which happened to be the San Jose Sharks.
