Per TSN's Darren Dreger, the Vegas Golden Knights have traded goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to the Chicago Blackhawks. While Vegas is getting just a minor league player in return (Mikael Hakkarainen) they were also able to give the Blackhawks his full $7 million cap hit, which has just one season remaining.

Fleury, 36, had a fantastic 2020-21 season, posting a 1.98 goals against average along with a .928 save percentage and a 26-10-0 record. Those numbers were good enough to earn the future hall-of-famer his first ever Vezina Trophy. Unfortunately for both him and the Golden Knights, the team is in a major cap crunch and although they certainly didn't want to, they were pretty well forced to move either him or their other goaltender in Robin Lehner, who they just signed to a five-year extension last offseason.

This is a huge move for the Blackhawks, who also just brought in highly sought after defenceman Seth Jones this past weekend. It appears that management wants to give players like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews another shot at a Stanley Cup, something their roster hasn't been good enough for the past few seasons. It also appears the Golden Knights are attempting to clear cap space for another big move. Stay tuned.
