The New York Islanders have decided to cut loose the forward they drafted fifth overall in 2014. The Isles made their qualifying offers to restricted free agents on Monday, leaving Michael Dal Colle off the list.

Despite being drafted so high, Dal Colle has struggled in the NHL, putting up eight goals and 21 points in 111 games throughout his career. Not getting a qualifying offer means he'll become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday and is free to sign with any team that will have him.

The Islanders had two first-round draft picks in 2014, using their second to take Josh Ho-Sang at 28th. With that, it is safe to say the Isles had a complete bust of a first round in that year's draft. Some of the names taken after Dal Colle in 2014 include William Nylander (8th), Alex Tuch (18th), and David Pastrnak (25th).
