The Montreal Canadiens sent shockwaves through the hockey world Friday night when the team drafted 18-year-old defenceman Logan Mailloux despite his request that club wait until next year. Mailloux faced criminal charges in Sweden back in November for sharing a photo of a consensual sexual encounter with a girl with his teammates. Since the decision to draft Mailloux, Habs brass have been asked many questions by members of he media regarding the reasoning behind it. None of the exchanges have been more awkward than this one.

Montreal assistant general manager Trevor Timmins, who is heavily involved in scouting and drafting for the Canadiens, was asked why the Canadiens felt the opposite if Mailloux himself felt he needed more time to mature. Timmins seemed at a complete loss, with several seconds of awkward silence, before asking the reporter to clarify what he meant.

Montreal has stated the team will work with Mailloux to ensure he fully understands the consequences of his actions. You can read more about that below the video.
