Canucks and Coyotes strike a draft day blockbuster

Some huge news coming out of Arizona as Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman (with credit to AZSports' John Gambadoro who had it first) is reporting that the Coyotes have struck a blockbuster deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

According to Friedman, the deal involves Coyotes captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson and RFA winger Conor Garland heading to Vancouver. Ekman-Larsson, 30, is signed through 2026-27 and carries a $8.25M cap hit.

The return from Vancouver is the 9th overall pick in this evening's NHL Entry Draft, a 2nd rounder in 2022, a 7th rounder, 31-year-old Antoine Roussel, 35-year-old Jay Beagle, 36-year-old Loui Eriksson.

There is no less than $63.5M in real cash changing hands in this deal. Wow.

The trade call has not yet gone through and there may be some salary retention.

Arizona picking up approximately 12% of OEL's salary. The former Coyotes captain has 6 seasons remaining on his current deal.
