The Stars are shaping up to be a Stanley Cup contender in 2024/25, but unfortunately, they may be without their top star for the remainder of the regular season, with the team potentially not getting him back until the second round of the playoffs.

This season has been a good one for the Dallas Stars thus far, with the team looking every bit the contender they entered the 2024/25 season as with one of the most star studded and balanced lineup in the NHL.

Unfortunately, a key piece of that lineup has been down for quite some time, with defenseman Miro Heiskanen currently sidelined due to injury, spreading a thin blue line even thinner.

Now, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period is reporting that he could remain sidelined until the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which would be a major blow for the Stars, especially if they matchup against the likes of Colorado, Winnipeg or even Minnesota in the first-round.

With Heiskanen and Nils Lundqvist both out due to injury, the right side of the Stars defense is one of the worst in the NHL, meaning that they'll likely have to go out and pick up a big name ahead of the March 7th trade deadline.

The original injury for Heiskanen involved Vegas' Mark Stone taking him out at the knee, and while it wasn't intentional, it could end up being catastrophic for Dallas, who are yet to live up to the billing as Stanley Cup contenders.

Ultimately, if they can get to a point where Heiskanen gets back into the lineup and they're still alive in the 2024/25 season, this will be a team to be reckoned with, especially if they can upgrade their blue line around Heiskanen during his absence.
