The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that two veteran forwards will be out the remainder of the season.

Much to the surprise of many fans, the Columbus Blue Jackets are right in the thick of the playoff race this year.

In fact, the team is just one point back of the second wildcard spot, although they remain eight points back of the New Jersey Devils for the 3rd spot in the Metro division.

Through 56 games, the team has a 26-22-8 record, good for 60 points.

Unfortunately though, the organization just announced some tough news that could hurt their chances of making the playoffs this season.

Forwards Kevin Labanc and Owen Sillinger are out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgeries to repair injuries the two players were dealing with, general manager Don Waddell announced.

"The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forwards Boone Jenner and Kirill Marchenko off Injured Reserve, team President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell announced today. The club also announced that forward Kevin Labanc was placed on Injured Reserve after undergoing shoulder surgery on February 18 and will miss the rest of the campaign. In addition, forward Owen Sillinger will also miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season with a knee injury."

This is just the latest on the injury front for the team. Earlier this month, Kirill Marchenko broke his jaw and remains on injured reserve.

Marchenko leads all Blue Jackets forwards with 55 points and he leads the team in goals with 21.

Labanc on the other hand had 2 goals and 12 points through 34 games this year.

Owen Sillinger, the older brother of Cole, has mainly been with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL this season, but did make his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets in January.

Hopefully the Blue Jackets will be able to maintain their heroic run this season despite these injuries and make a deep run in the playoffs in honor of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
