The former Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares got disappointing news after he got injured in a practice session yesterday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost their last three games, and the fans haven't been happy about the team's performance even if it is in first place in the Atlantic Division. For the past two games, the Leafs were booed off the ice.

With the team struggling to win, players need all the help they can get on the ice, but unfortunately, will have to play without one of their teammates.

Indeed, John Tavares was injured in a practice session yesterday and will miss a week of action, according to an official statement by the Maple Leafs.

The organization also announced that they've called up Fraser Minten from the Toronto Marlies in the AHL to take his place in the lineup during his recovery:

The former captain was injured in a weird collision with the boards in a battle for the puck against Chris Tanev during practice yesterday.

This is a tough loss for the Leafs, who will try to stop their losing streak to three games tonight against the New Jersey Devils and their former head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Tavares was an important part of the Leafs' success this season, tallying 42 points in 44 games, with a +3 rating.

As for Minten, he played 11 NHL games this season with the Leafs, scoring two goals and two assists in that time.

He also registered 10 points, including five goals, in 16 AHL games with the Marlies.

An update on his status ahead of tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils should be made soon, but don't be surprised if he gets to play in the crucial game.

With a win, the Leafs would overtake the Devils' second spot in the Eastern Conference. However, if they lose, New Jersey would increase their lead to three points in the standings.
