The Pittsburgh Penguins took a chance on Jesse Puljujarvi a season ago, but now it appears that's over as he has officially been placed on waivers.

The 2024/25 campaign has been an up-and-down one for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and now they've made another intriguing decision regarding a young forward.

After reviving his NHL career a year ago, GM Kyle Dubas and the Penguins have now surprisingly placed Jesse Puljujarvi on waivers, despite the 26-year old showing plenty of potential this season.

In 22 games played this year, Puljujarvi has scored 3 goals and 8 points, and despite the Penguins turning things around in recent times, it appears they don't believe in him as a key part of their future.

With the acquisition of Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators, the Penguins bottom-six has become a lot more of a competition for playing time, and with Puljujarvi not playing since early December, this move was just a matter of time.

However, fans out there believe that he still has plenty to offer the team, and with some veterans on the team failing to produce, Puljujarvi still has plenty of support in the fan base.

After being picked No. 4 overall in the 2016 NHL Draft, Puljujarvi flashed plenty of potential in Edmonton, but ultimately he couldn't find a way to consistently produce at the NHL level, and after believing his NHL career was over, he's seen plenty of improvements since joining the Penguins, although the inconsistency has struck again.

Ultimately though, if the team are going to continue healthy scratching him, this is the right move for them to make, and while there's a great chance that he gets claimed, if not the team will benefit from some added depth at the AHL level.
