The New York Islanders have just placed their $21 million man, Pierre Engvall, on waivers, as well as a former first-round draft pick, in a series of moves.

The New York Islanders on Friday placed forwards Pierre Engvall and Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers a day after the team had themselves a wild 5-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday.

Both moves save them $2.15 million at the cap. They get to clear $1M from Oliver Wahlstrom in full while $1.15M of Pierre Engvall will still count toward the cap.

Engvall, who did spend some time in the AHL in October before getting recalled to the NHL within a week, has scored three goals and three assists in 20 games with New York so far this season.

Wahlstrom has been more of a regular, seeing action in 27 contests with two goals and two assists for four points.

If both players clear waivers, they will be assigned to the Bridgeport Islanders. Any claims by other teams will be announced on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

In other waivers news, Travis Dermott, who was placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers yesterday, was claimed by the rival Minnesota Wild.

This is no doubt a very busy waiver period in the NHL, as teams are trying to finalize their rosters before the holiday freeze that goes into effect in a couple of weeks.
