Edmonton Oilers captain and the NHL's best player Connor McDavid was injured against the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday night. Elliotte Friedman has now updated his status.

Connor McDavid has been a phenom in the NHL for nearly a decade now, bringing the Edmonton Oilers within one win of the Stanley Cup last year.

Unfortunately, after a nasty fall during his first shift against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night, he left the game and did not return.

Elliotte Friedman has now confirmed that the worst - likely a broken bone, has been avoided, but that Connor McDavid will miss some time.

This is good news for the Edmonton Oilers, who are off to a less-than-ideal start to the 2024-25 NHL season. The team hasn't been able to bring everything together despite being in the Stanley Cup Finals a mere few months ago. The team's new additions, Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson, have both equally had slow starts to the year.

The Edmonton Oilers made two call-ups following the injury to captain Connor McDavid, including 26 year old Noah Philp who has yet to make his NHL debut, and took the entire 2023-24 season off in what was believed to be retirement., and Drake Caggiula, who was once a regular for the Edmonton Oilers in 2017-18.

We will see if the Edmonton Oilers can push forward without their captain and franchise player. A slow start may have worked last season, but it may not work again.
