The real reason why the Los Angeles Kings star Kevin Fiala was scratched last night was finally released: he broke a sacred team rule.

Last night, in a surprising twist, it was announced that Kevin Fiala wouldn't be a part of the Los Angeles Kings' game against the San Jose Sharks. Indeed, his team decided to scratch him just before the game.

The Kings were set to face the worst team in the whole NHL: the San Jose Sharks. With Macklin Celebrini still sidelined with an injury, the Kings came into San Jose with a lot of confidence, which could've played a role in the outcome turning the other way.

Indeed, the Sharks ended up winning 4-2, their second win of the season.

A few days ago, they became the first team in NHL history to lose nine consecutive games in two straight seasons, but since then, they won all their games:

The Kings may have been too confident. They even decided to scratch one of their top players in that game: Kevin Fiala.

Fiala was reportedly late to a team meeting and, therefore was cut from the lineup.

Per Elliotte Friedman:

It's not unusual to see teams scratch players who are late to team events, but this time, it's safe to say that the Kings paid the price.

We don't know if the Kings would've won the game with Fiala in uniform but with his six-point tally this season, he ranks fifth in the Kings' scorers and could've helped the Kings offensively.
