The Dallas Stars have built an incredible young core in recent years, and now they've locked down a key part of that group with a massive deal for Jake Oettinger.

The Dallas Stars have been on the cusp of a deep Stanley Cup Playoffs run for a number of years now, and while they've not quite made the Stanley Cup Finals yet, it's certainly not because of goaltender Jake Oettinger. Now, after some amazing years and a very bright future ahead, the Stars have announced an extension for the young net minder.

According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the deal to keep the 25-year old in Dallas is eight-years and $8.25 million per season, the exact same AAV recently given to Boston Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman.

Both are considered to be key pieces of the future for their respective franchises, with Oettinger showing thus far that he could be on his way to becoming arguably the best goaltender in the NHL. In 196 regular season appearances thus far, Oettinger has put together a .914 save percentage alongside a 2.49 GAA, and with his prime still ahead of him, it's safe to say that he will only get better and better from here behind a solid Stars defensive unit.

It was his playoff series against the Calgary Flames in 2021/22 that saw him catapulted into the spotlight in the NHL, and since that point, the Minnesota native has gone from strength to strength, consolidating his position as a top goaltender in the NHL. With the Stars looking to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals, they've now locked in one key piece of their team, and if he continues this play or even improves, it's safe to say that they'll be considered a contender for years to come.
