Viacheslav Fetisov is one of the greatest defensemen to ever grace ice, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.

The two time Stanley Cup champion with the Detroit Red Wings has announced some tragic news today as his father Aleksandr Fetisov has passed away. He made the announcement as he revealed he would not be attending the all-star game.
Two-time Olympic hockey champion Vyacheslav Fetisov told Match TV that he will not be able to come to the all-star game in Vladivostok due to the death of his father
This comes on the same day that fellow Hockey Hall of Famer Pavel Bure, and his brother Valeri Bure lost their father Vladimir Bure in a tragic swimming accident.
Originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1978, Viacheslav Fetisov never played a game for them, only making his NHL debut eleven years later with the New Jersey Devils. Following joining the Detroit Red Wings, he won two Stanley Cups.
Fetisov is now a big-time politician and businessman, having left his hockey days behind. He was, however, part of the team that brought the Olympics succesfully to Sochi in 2014. Filatov is now much less liked in NHL circles due to his push to stop young KHL players from signing in North America.
His father Aleksandr was a large part of his dominance in his home country, and will be dearly missed. It has truly been a heartbreaking week in the hockey world.
