The Columbus Blue Jackets recently traded Patrik Laine, and now we know where the push to move him originally came from.

After weeks of speculation, the Montreal Canadiens finally landed forward Patrik Laine this week, and unsurprisingly, some very negative comments have now emerged about his time in Columbus. Now, a shocking report has been published, revealing that years ago, a group of four Blue Jackets came together in a meeting to persuade the organization to move on from not only Laine, but veteran goaltender Elvis Merzlikins too.

«Cam Atkinson, Seth Jones, Zach Werenski, and Gustav Nyquist were reportedly among the veterans present at that meeting.

«The players came out of it with the following conclusion: 'you gotta get Laine and Merzlikins out of here' reported Portzline.»

That meeting supposedly happened quite some time ago, with Werenski the only one of the four still remaining with the team to this day, but after Laine's character concerns, it appears they were right about him. It's never been revealed the exact reason why they did this, but he's gone on to be very inconsistent over the past few years, but now with the chance to reinvent his career in Montreal, we will see if he can get it together on and off the ice.
