Just days before its official trailer release, an accidental leak revealed the cover athletes for EA Sports' NHL 25: the Hughes brothers.

EA Sports has released an NHL-themed game each year for a few decades, now approaching its 34th installment with NHL 25. As with many games, the trailer release date often comes as a more pivotal event than the release date itself, as it brings about the first piece of related media people can directly observe and discuss.
However, this year's official release has already proven to be a fiasco. Noah Strang of the Daily Hive was among one of the first names in hockey news to point out that EA Sports NHL accidentally released the trailer a few days early. The channel manager quickly privatized the video, but not before several viewers were able to share the video across social media, and pick up one key detail. Outside a new "Ice-Q" feature, the major news is that the cover athletes will be all three Hughes brothers: Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, and New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes and defenseman Luke Hughes.
The Hughes brothers now get the honor of the first cover athlete trio since 1993's NHLPA hockey with Mike Richter, Rod Brind'Amour, and Randy Moller, as well as the esteem of the first cover athlete brothers for a North American release. The official trailer is set to launch the morning of Thursday, August 22nd. Hopefully, this early trailer leak will not ruin the game's chances of success, and in turn, the trajectory of these players' careers in the NHL.
