A major update was released on the Edmonton Oilers' contract negotiations with their star forward Leon Draisaitl.

Since July 1st, Leon Draisaitl has been eligible to sign a new contract. With only one remaining season on his deal with the Edmonton Oilers, fans would certainly love to see an extension materialize before the start of the 2024-25 season.
The Oilers radio commentator Bob Stauffer shared an update that will be appreciated by fans. According to him, Draisaitl will sign an extension shortly.
"It would not surprise me if Leon were to be signed to an extension shortly."
Following a capfriendly contract of $8.5M AAV for the past eight seasons, Draisaitl could be on his way to become one of the highest paid players in the League.
Projections revealed that the forward's next contract could be in the range of $13-14M, very similar to what Auston Matthews signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer.
In any case, Jiri Poner, Draisaitl's agent, has been clear: they are in no rush to make a deal happen:
"There's no rush yet, but either it happens quickly, by end of August, or it doesn't work out at all. It will become clear whether Edmonton wants him or not."
