Today after many days of speculation notable NHL personality Jeff Marek has commented on his leaving Sportsnet for the first time.
Over the last week or so speculation began to build regarding the future of popular hockey analyst Jeff Marek. Many sources revealed that he had not been on his regular podcast with Elliotte Friedman the 32 Thoughts Podcast since the NHL Draft.
As a result, many began to speculate that there had been a problem between Sportsnet and Jeff Marek. Eventually, it was indeed confirmed by YYZ Sports Media that Jeff Marek would not be returning to his role with Sportsnet.
Details are scarce but multiple sources tell me that for unconfirmed draft reasons, @JeffMarek will likely be no longer performing duties at Sportnet hockey. Details to follow. This would appear to include his podcast duties too.
Within minutes of this being revealed the whole hockey world came out in support of Jeff Marek hoping he was sticking around hockey media. Today he finally made a statement for the first time since the separation.
Jeff Marek comments on his separation from Sportsnet
In a thread on X Jeff Marek addressed his separation from Sportsnet and gave a slight look into his future in the hockey world.
"Firstly, thanks for the outpouring of kinds words on Twitter/X. It really means the world to me," said Marek.
"After 13 great years at Sportsnet, I'm moving on. It's been an incredible journey and I'm thankful to have worked alongside so many great people and played a role in bringing sports and hockey news to fans across Canada and the world. More to come soon."
In addition to Jeff Marek's statement, his 32 Thoughts co-host Elliotte Friedman put out a statement on X as well.
When we started the podcast, Sportsnet asked if I wanted to do it myself or have a co-host. I liked the idea of playing off someone; @moorescottmoore suggested Jeff Marek.
It was brilliant. Jeff has his loopy suggestions, but they made for fun debates and great moments.
Life throws curveballs at you. I will miss being his teammate, and thank him for being a tremendous co-pilot on the start to our 32 Thoughts podcasting voyage — which will continue.
As of now, it is unconfirmed whether Elliotte Friedman will continue the podcast by himself or bring in a new co-host for the show. As for Jeff Marek many have speculated that he will head over to TSN or Bell Media who have the rights for hockey coverage heading into the future.
As this story continues to develop we will pass along the latest news and notes regarding the future of Jeff Marek, Elliotte Friedman, and the 32 Thoughts Podcast.
