Brandon Montour just won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, and has now revealed just how close he came to signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Montour played a huge part in Florida capturing their first ever Stanley Cup, which led to him signing a lucrative deal to join the Seattle Kraken. Montour revealed he was very close to joining the Leafs instead. Brandon indicated that he and his agent did have conversations with the Leafs organization prior to signing with the Kraken for seven years.
"That was something for my agent to kind of control and work on while my whole focus was on hockey," he explained. "There were conversations - you just look at their roster and look at yourself. For me, I saw the player that could help and it was intriguing in that week. There were talks, but there's a lot that goes into it with family with what they need and what I need, business decisions and such. There were definitely talks - we were excited about it and thought about it, but there were tons of options, and we're obviously grateful for Seattle. We're excited about that experience and excited to get down there and get started, with you could say, a new organization."

Leafs fans shouldn't feel down about not having signed the recent Stanley Cup champ, as GM Brad Treliving still acquired many solid players, such as Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Anthony Stolarz. The Leafs will have to make Montour regret not signing with them by beating him on the ice.
