Sutter will now be taking on a new role with the Calgary Wranglers, joining head coach Trent Cull as an assistant behind the bench. He released a heartfelt message on social media thanking all fans for their support over his nearly two decades of playing professionally.
Nothing fancy, just like my game. Thanks to my beautiful family for the endless support. Every coach & staff member along the way. Incredible fans on every stop. The best friends in the world. Lastly, and what I'll miss the most, my teammates. There was never a bad day at the rink. I'll miss the coffee's, laughs, win songs, road trips. All of it. It was the best 17 years I could've asked for. Thanks again, and see you all at the rink soon.

Perhaps the most famous memory Flames fans have of Sutter is when he scored his first NHL goal during his first NHL game prior to the Christmas break on December 23, 2008. Fans in Calgary will be happy to know it appears he will now be calling the city his home for quite some time.
