Sidney Crosby's future was seemingly in doubt with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but now that may be put to bed with a major contract extension.

The Pittsburgh Penguins missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight year in 2023/24, and heading into the off-season, there were questions about the way they'd handle Sidney Crosby's free agency. Any rumours of a split between the two parties can now likely be put to bed, as the latest update from Rob Rossi of The Athletic has revealed that the two parties are closing in on a big time new deal.
The team and player are confident a deal will be agreed upon and formalized soon, the sources said.
After yet another stellar campaign where the 36-year old netted 42 goals alongside 94 points, it's safe to say that he's still capable of leading a team deep in the playoffs, but now it's up to Kyle Dubas and the front office to put the talent around him. We don't yet know about any details of a potential contract between Crosby and the Penguins, but given his age, any deal is likely to be his last in the NHL.
Whatever deal he does get will be well earned however, as No. 87 will likely go down as the Penguins greatest ever player, and in the eyes of many, he'll be seen as one of the best to ever step foot on the ice in the NHL.
