Ahead of the last day of Rookie Camp, Boston Bruins forward Matthew Poitras suffered a worrying setback that prevented his return to the ice.

Now just beyond the NHL draft and free agency, teams are working on developing their prospect pools to perform at the highest level. One player working on his return to the ice was Matthew Poitras, a center for the Boston Bruins picked in the second round of the 2022 draft.

"With the 54th pick in the 2022 #NHLDraft, the #NHLBruins select center Matthew Poitras. Welcome to Boston, Matthew!"

However, Poitras suffered a major setback last season with the team. After 33 games on the ice for Boston, the then 19-year-old forward had to undergo shoulder surgery, ending his season prematurely.

"Mathew Poitras underwent surgery on his right shoulder Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the season. The 19-year old ends his rookie season with 15 points, 40 shots on net and a plus-4 rating over 33 appearances."

Now months after his surgery, Poitras was able to attend much of the rookie camp. He was seen on the ice for the Bruins the first of the month working on his shots.

"Matthew Poitras back on the ice."

However, the young forward was nowhere to be seen on the final day of rookie camp. Though no official statement on his condition has been released, it is suspected that he is continuing to nurse the shoulder injury he suffered earlier this year.

"Matt Poitras not on the ice for scrimmage day. Guessing he's not cleared for that kind of contact, but we'll see."

Rookie Camp is a very important process for getting young players into gear for NHL-level hockey. Hopefully, Matthew Poitras's absence from scrimmage day does not hurt his chances at success with the Boston Bruins this upcoming season.
