Reports have continued to surface indicating that Mitch Marner is expected to be traded this summer. After months of frustration from fans he seems to have worn out his welcome and necessitated a change of scenery.
With a change coming for Mitch Marner The Hockey News decided to look at 5 destinations that could be a good fit for Mitch Marner. The five teams they selected were the Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, New York Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, and the new Utah Hockey Club.
All of these teams lack a dynamic playmaker within their lineup.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have fantastic centers but need to surround them with talent. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin would thrive playing alongside a player like Mitch Marner.
Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks have a young forward group. They could certainly benefit from a veteran coming in to help create a strong culture. He would instantly become the second option on the Blackhawks offensively and work in tandem with Connor Bedard.
The Anaheim Ducks have a ton of young talent but could use a veteran forward to mentor. He would also be their best true winger and could help one or more of their many talented centers to the position.
The New York Islanders play a defensive style and could use a winger to go along with Mathew Barzal. Mitch Marner's style of play might not be the best fit here but under new head coach Patrick Roy there could be more room for the creativity that Mitch Marner provides.
Finally, the Utah hockey club is expected to load up and compete this season and Mitch Marner could help get to that goal. He would pair well alongside young centers Logan Cooley and Barrett Hayton. He would also be a good fallback in case the team decides to part ways with star winger Clayton Keller.
As of now, the Mitch Marner trade talks are in their infancy. Once a move is close to being completed it will be fun to see if any of these teams end up being the final bidders.
