Jacob Trouba almost took Martin Necas' head off in game two, and while some called for a suspension, it appears the NHL isn't thinking the same.

The round two series between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers has been full of intensity, drama and physicality, but on Monday night, it almost went too far. During the eventual overtime thriller, Jacob Trouba attempted to put his stamp on the game, but unfortunately almost got it wrong in a huge way as he looked to lay down the boom on Martin Necas.

Not only did he almost elbow Necas in the head, but he left his feet and collided with the boards, while coming down with his skate on Necas' head, and while he didn't connect with the elbow, some believed the attempt warranted a suspension.

However, the 5pm deadline for consequences has come and passed, with the NHL not making any mention of it, meaning he is free to go onto Carolina and play in what will be a very hostile environment for game three.

If Jacob Trouba had made contact with Martin Necas' head, he would likely have been suspended for the rest of the playoffs.

The NHL Department of Player Safety has chosen not to discipline him at all, however, as the 5PM deadline has passed.

Ultimately, it appears as though the league overlooked the incident due to not making contact, but if Trouba does, Necas may miss a very long stretch, so they will be hoping he can turn down the violence even without consequences.
