This afternoon during locker cleanout Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews spoke to the media. During his time taking questions Auston Matthews finally revealed what he was going through that forced him to miss several playoff games.

Throughout their series against the Boston Bruins there had been many rumors about what injury Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews was dealing with. Today it was confirmed by Auston Matthews himself that it was sickness and then a weird hit in Game 4 that kept him out.

Auston Matthews says he got "really sick" after Game 2 of the Bruins series, played in Game 3 and then took a "weird hit" in Game 4.

This answer from Auston Matthews provides some answers but still leaves many questions. He declined to answer what the fallout or exact injury from the "weird hit" was.

Matthews said he took a «weird hit» in Game 4 and that's all he's going to go into regarding what kept him out of Game 5 and 6.

Auston Matthews: «I got really sick before Game 2. Was trying to recover going into Game 3. In Game 4, I took a weird hit and couldn't go any longer. That is as detailed as I am going to get into it. It was tough. Really frustrating. Sucks. It was killing me to watch.»

The Maple Leafs were able to hold on without Auston Matthews but ultimately fell when he returned in Game 7 to the Boston Bruins. Now the offseason ahead creates a lot of questions for the future of the Maple Leafs. One thing is for certain though Auston Matthews is a clear part of the team's future.
