One of the most divisive figures in hockey is Ryan Whitney. Now a popular media personality, the former NHLer may have crossed the line.

Ryan Whitney played for three NHL teams; the Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, and Anaheim Ducks, and continued his career in the NHL as a media personality for Barstool Sports.

He took to social media to poke fun at the Toronto Maple Leafs with this photo:

One of hockey's most outspoken activists, Ian Kennedy, made these harsh comments:

I took down my previous post, as there was no reason to show Ryan Whitney's disgusting use of s****l a*****t. R**e culture in hockey is real, and Barstool and SC are part of the problem in normalizing s****l a*****t in the game. So much work to be done.

Another hockey fan put it like this, blaming him for his irresponsible use of AI.

"I'm not a fan of the Leafs but what Ryan Whitney posted earlier today was way offside. That is not okay.

Sadly, terrible people are going to use AI for awful reasons. Block and report. Don't share, don't re-post."

Humour is an integral part of sports, but it can be understood why Toronto Maple Leafs fans and other hockey appreciators found this too harsh. Do you think that Ryan Whitney crossed the line?
