It was a disappointing season for one of the NHL's newest teams, the Seattle Kraken, who missed the playoffs after an incredible run the year prior.

The young team, highlighted by former second overall pick Matty Beniers (who had a tough season unfortunately), and fourth overall pick Shane Wright, fell short of expectations, finishing the season in the bottom-10.

Thus, inaugural head coach Dave Hakstol has been fired as the team looks for new direction, as per Elliotte Friedman:

Hearing the Seattle Kraken are making a coaching change. Dave Hakstol will be out.

While there is no doubt Hakstol had a terrible year, Friedman was surprised by the decision, due to the team's success last year.

Honestly surprised at this one. Second-round of playoffs in second season.

In addition, assistant coach Paul McFarland has been relieved of his duties.

The #SeaKraken announce that head coach Dave Hakstol has been fired.

Assistant coach Paul McFarland is also out in Seattle.
