The Philadelphia Flyers seemed ready to take a step forward this season. The team hasn't been terrible, but it has definitely had its troubles, which weren't helped by a blowout 9-0 loss to the New York Rangers recently, as well as almost blowing a 3-0 lead to the New York Islanders Thursday night. There was talk the team would try to add a major piece before going into the playoffs, but Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet isn't sure that's the case any longer.

"I'm not convinced the Flyers, I thought they were going to be a big player for some of your (Nashville) guys, especially [Mattias] Ekholm. I'm not sure they're going to do that anymore," said Friedman while appearing on ESPN 1025 Radio.

"I think they're going to look at it and say we might not be good enough to spend the resources on this," Friedman added.

Ekholm seems to be the most coveted piece on the trade market right now for any team looking to make a deep run in the playoffs. The Flyers have a 15-10-3 record right now. Not bad at all, but there have been several questions regarding goaltending and defence if the goal is to have a shot at the Stanley Cup. Carter Hart, who was pegged as the team's new number one goaltender, has a goals against average this season of 3.70, and a save percentage of .880 in 19 starts.

If the Flyers aren't "good enough" now, it certainly raises the question of when that will happen.
