On Tuesday night, the Washington Capitals defeated the New York Islanders, and it turned out to be a milestone night for captain Alexander Ovechkin. In the second period, he assisted on T.J. Oshie's goal to make it 1-0 Washington. That assist was Ovechkin's 1,300th career point.

Roughly five minutes after Oshie's goal, the Capitals went on the powerplay, and in classic Ovechkin fashion, he scored from his usual spot. Not only did the goal put Washington up 2-0, Ovechkin passed Boston Bruins legend Phil Esposito for sixth all-time on the NHL goals list with 718.

Ovechkin and linemate Nicklas Backstrom met with the media after the game, with both players being asked "I know neither one of you likes talking about yourself so Nick, would you be able to talk about what it's been like seeing Alex score like this? And Alex, what it's been like seeing Nick score as much as he has?" by Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press.

"My answer is pretty simple," Backstrom said. "We've seen him do it year after year. It's just so impressive. I think the way he shoots the puck, the way he scores, the way he plays the game is just fun to see. As a teammate, you're just enjoying every moment."

As Backstrom was speaking, Ovechkin looked over and wiped fake tears from his eyes, then the pair shared a laugh.

"We start together to build this relationship, build this chemistry," Ovechkin replied. "I think we enjoy to play together. I think we all understand how we have to play. If we have the join, we have fun and it's hard to stop especially when Nicky have the puck and he's flying out there. It's fun to watch, I just have to be open all the time and try to put the puck in. It's fun to play with him. He's one of the best."

The pair have played together in Washington for the past 14 seasons, and arguably are one of the best duos in NHL history with Ovechkin sitting at 718 goals, and Backstrom at 706 assists.
