The trade deadline seems to be haunting the Colorado Avalanche, as this key position remains in question, especially after game 1 against the Jets.

Game 1 of the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche was everything that it was chalked up to be. The energy was high, and the goal total was even higher, as the game finished with a 7-6 victory for the Jets. Amidst this, however, came a glaring realization for a lot of fans and players about the Avs missed opportunity at the deadline.

It was widely speculated that the Avalanche were looking at adding goaltender Jake Allen at the trade deadline this year, in order to give them some needed depth between the pipes.

There is no Jake Allen deal to Colorado. The two clubs haven't spoken in days but there has been previous discussions. Nothing close at this stage.

Instead, however, that did not materialize, and the Avs have gone with goaltender Alexandar Georgiev who has struggled down the stretch. With Jake Allen now sitting in a studio commenting on games for Sportsnet, it has made fans wonder about what could have been.

Can't help but wonder what this game would look like if Jake Allen were playing for the Avs instead of sitting in a TV studio in Toronto.

Obviously, there is always a 'what could have been' argument that can be made when things go wrong. You can make the same hypothetical argument if the Avs did trade for Allen and he struggled down the stretch. However, what is clear, is that the Avalanche are not going to win many games if they give up 7 goals against.

As seen on Hockey Feed - Avalanche made a fatal error at the NHL trade deadline.
