The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they've placed the defenseman Ryan Shea on waivers.

Even if the Penguins are officially eliminated from the playoffs, it's not to case for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who clinched their playoff ticket in the AHL.

To help his farm team win, Kyle Dubas decided to send Ryan Shea to the minors. However, he'll need to clear waivers before that happens.

Per Capfriendly:

"Placed on Waivers
Ryan Shea (LD) | PIT"

Shea is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season.

"The #letsGoPens put 27 y/o LD Ryan Shea on waivers.

$775K Cap Hit and pending UFA"

In 31 games with the Penguins this season, the defenseman score one goal and has a +1 goal differential in the NHL. He was drafted in 2015 by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round and signed a one-year deal in Pittsburgh last summer as a free agent.

He could play a key role in the AHL as the team look to win the Calder Cup.

More to come.
