The Toronto Maple Leafs are doing some last-minute roster work to get their team ready for the playoffs this year, and it appears that means sending Matthew Knies down to the AHL.

It's by no means official, however, the Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be making a major roster move in order to beef up their playoff lineup. It has been reported that the Leafs will send Matthew Knies to the AHL on a purely paper transaction in order to free up the roster space required to sign Cade Webber.

Like some others have said, expect Matthew Knies to be assigned to the Marlies today to create cap space for the #LeafsForever to sign Cade Webber to his ELC. He'll be brought back up sometime before Game 1 Sat night

Webber is a massive defenseman who played previously at Boston University. While it is unknown whether or not he will get in the lineup right away for the Leafs, it certainly adds some reinforcement to their back end.

Webber has been travelling already with the team, so he is well acquainted to what life is like with the Toronto Maple Leafs. We will see how his future fairs with the Leafs in the post-season.
