Hockey fights are always sure to get the blood flowing, but no one likes to see someone get seriously hurt, including the players themselves.

In the 2nd period of Thursday night's game between the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning, Barclay Goodrow and Adam Erne dropped the gloves for what would be a good tilt.

Goodrow ended up hitting Erne square in the jaw and clearly knocks him out. In a very respectable move, Goodrow ensures he's holding tight to Erne's jersey as he falls to the ice so Erne doesn't hit his head and make the damage any worse. Check it out:

Erne left immediately to get checked out but did return in the 3rd period of the game and appeared to be no worse for wear. Great to see the mutual respect, even after two players get into a heated battle.

Oh yeah, the Red Wings beat the defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning by a score of 6-4. Not too many saw that coming .
