The Montreal Canadiens had a big 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks Wednesday night but it looks like it came at the expense of defenceman Ben Chiarot, at least for a little while. Chiarot decided to drop the gloves with J.T. Miller with about five minutes left in the first period of the game. It was not a long fight nor were many punches thrown. But, it looks like Chiarot hurt and possibly broke his hand or a finger in the exchange. Check it out:

Chiarot would leave the game and did not return. Montreal Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme has already announced he will not play in Calgary tonight.

Chiarot has spent the entire 2020-21 season playing on the Habs' top pairing with Shea Weber. He has averaged over 21 minutes of ice-time per game this season, which won't be easy to replace for the Canadiens. With the injury, it's likely Victor Mete will draw back into the lineup, although it's not clear whether he would be paired with Weber. Mete has played in just five games for Montreal this season, spending the rest of his time as a healthy scratch.

The Canadiens are expected to release more details on Chiarot's injury later today.
