The Vegas Golden Knights were dealt a tough blow today when they learned that defenceman Alex Pietrangelo is out for the 'foreseeable future' due to an upper-body injury.

The injury occurred in Saturday night's 4-0 win over the San Jose Sharks after he blocked a shot in the third period. As a result, the 31-year-old returned to Las Vegas shortly after and missed Monday's game versus the Minnesota Wild.

"Obviously not a great sign that he returned home for evaluation," head coach Peter DeBoer said. "I'm not concerned it's long, long-term, but he's out for the foreseeable future."

It has been a bit of a frustrating season for Pietrangelo, who is in his first season with the Golden Knights after signing a seven-year, $61.6 million deal this past offseason. He has already missed three games this season after being placed on the COVID-19 protocol list in February. When he has played however, he has come as advertised with 10 points in 18 games while leading all Golden Knights skaters in average ice time per game with 25:27.
