A bit of a bizarre situation took place prior to the Golden Knights' win on Friday night against the San Jose Sharks. The team was originally supposed to stay at the famous Fairmont hotel in downtown San Jose, but were informed it had suddenly closed on Friday, which left the Golden Knights scrambling for a hotel to stay at.

According to Justin Emerson of the Las Vegas Sun, the Golden Knights had their pre-game meal before being being kicked out of the hotel, and found out it was being closed.

"It was a surreal experience," coach Pete DeBoer said. "Hopefully this is the end of the COVID year, but it was almost the topping on the cake for what the last year has been for everybody in the world. Just another thing thrown at you, another thing to deal with."

"Not that I'm putting it in the same breath as dealing with COVID, but it was just one of those things we got thrown at us, we dealt with it and found a way to get off to a good start, so good resiliency by our group," he added.

"That's a first for probably everybody on our team," defenseman Nick Holden said. Holden added that he thinks the quick relocation was toughest on Alex Tuch and Ryan Reaves, who had to pack up the video game system they brought.

The Mercury News in San Jose is reporting that the hotel is between $100 to $500 million in debt, but owners have plans to reopen in the next few months.
