Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe revealed that defenseman Timothy Liljegren is expected to miss significant time with his current injury. The announcement comes after he missed tonight's game.

Liljegren was a late scratch as he did not take warmups with the team unexpectedly tonight. He is reportedly dealing with an upper-body injury, according to the Maple Leafs.

Timothy Liljegren is going to «miss some time,» per Keefe.

The move did give the team a chance to active Mark Giordano off of LTIR however. The move proved to be a good one even if came out of necessity as Giordano scored just his second goal of the season in the game.

Maple Leafs defenceman Timothy Liljegren will not be available for tonight's game due to injury (upper body).

Defenceman Mark Giordano has been activated from LTIR.

The moment was extra special for the oldest Maple Leaf as it was his first time back in the lineup since his father passed away last month. After scoring the goal, he gestured toward the sky while celebrating with his teammates.

The veteran defenseman talked after the game about what the goal meant to him.

Mark Giordano on pointing to the sky after scoring:

"Just something I promised I would do after my dad passed away there if I scored. The way it was going (smile) it looked like it might not happen, but nice to get that one ... nothing too big, but pretty special for me"

With the win, the Maple Leafs have given themselves a four-point cushion over the Tampa Bay Lightning for the 3rd spot in the Atlantic division. With just ten games remaining in the regular season, they may have cemented that spot in the standings for themselves, avoiding a tougher first-round matchup as a wild card team.
