Ron MacLean has been a hated figure in the public eye ever since his nasty breakup with Don Cherry back in the 2010s. When Don Cherry was fired for using racially suggestive language, Ron MacLean turned his back on his longtime co-panelist, and since then he has been controversial beyond belief.
Every odd moment in his broadcasts, where he brings up weird stories and anecdotes from the 1960s, or reads poetry that means absolutely nothing to the game, sparks anger - and last night's interview with Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann was no exception.
Last night, in the Toronto Maple Leafs' Hockey Night in Canada matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, Ron MacLean was given his usual monologue, as well as an interview with Bobby McMann.
McMann recently signed a two-year extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs, due to his amazing fit in the teams' bottom-six. He plays with unexpected physicality, filling the void of the mostly unplayable Ryan Reaves.
In this interview, MacLean asked McMann, who was born in 1997, whether he knew of the shop of the mother of Glen Sather. Glen Sather, while still a voice in the NHL in the front office of the New York Rangers, retired from play 20 years before McMann was even born!
This sparked many as a 'quintessential' Ron MacLean moment due to its absurdity and awkwardness.
Is this the straw that'll break the camel's back?
